(as per MedicineNet.com)stress

Stress is a normal part of life that can help us learn and grow. Conversely, stress can cause us significant problems.

Stress releases powerful neurochemicals and hormones that prepare us for action (to fight or flee). If not absorbed, the stress response can lead to health problems. Prolonged, uninterrupted, unexpected, and unmanageable stresses are the most damaging types of stress.

The many ways of dealing with stress - drugs, pain medicines, alcohol, smoking, and eating - actually are counterproductive in that they can worsen the stress and can make us more reactive (sensitive) to further stress.

Stress can be best managed by regular exercise, meditation or other relaxation techniques, structured time outs, and learning new coping strategies. The management of stress depends mainly on the willingness of a person to make the changes necessary for a healthy lifestyle.

Reflexology

Reflexology reduces physical, emotional and psychological stress and tension. This results in greater relaxation in body and mind and a more energized daily functioning.

Reflexology treatment relaxes muscles and physical tension so the nervous system can function normally, thus benefiting the rest of the body. Further benefits include:

  • Blood vessels relax, so the oxygen and nutrients can be carried freely around the body by blood to all the tissues.
  • The lymphatic system works more effectively, helping to rid the body of toxins and impurities.
  • Breathing becomes more even and deeper.
  • Balancing hormone levels.
  • Revitalising, so you feel uplifted, calm, relaxed, balanced and re-energised.
